Ok, as you can tell, I'm a Sailor in the US Navy. I've been a Sailor for six years. I've been a Petty Officer for about half of that time. I've made PO2 (that's Petty Officer Second Class or E-5) twice. Not an easy task in the new Navy. It's hard to move from E-5 to E-3 and stay in the service these days. It's even harder to become a Second Class again, it's even harder in my rating (MOS, job group, whatever).
This is my blog. It's about life in the Navy on a small island in the Indian Ocean known as the "Footprint of Freedom" or Diego Garcia. It's about my life in the second most isolated place on the face of the Earth. Some might find it interesting, some might find it offensive, some might find it useless, but in the end I'm not really doing it for anyone but myself. My hope is that I will be left with a record of this adventure and maybe someone will gain an understanding of what it is to be a Second Class Petty Officer in the US Navy and what it is to be in my shoes.
These are my views and impressions. They are unofficial and do not reflect the US Navy's stance on anything. These thoughts are my own.
If you think you know who I am, shoot me an email. I'll most likely give you a spin but maybe not.
