Ramblings of a Petty Officer in the US Navy stationed in Deigo Garcia.
What in the world are they thinking?

So my first full friday night has come and gone. I spent the largest part in the Britt Club, a delightful outpost of club-goers stuck 2000 some odd miles from the night-spots that they crave.

Once again, I noticed a few interesting things:
1. There are 10+ males to every female. With odds like this, no guy in his right mind would ever even bother to try and pick one up, mainly because you're more than likely going to deny ever doing anything with the table scraps that you're most likely able to get.
2. Many white military members think that they have to be black to be cool. Little do they know that the more they try to capture the look, the worse they get it wrong.
3. A lot of black military members think that they have to be a rapper to be cool. Too bad that they can't get the fly ride and the pimpazz girlfriend that they need to complete that lifestyle here on the island.
4. Britt's party in pubs, Americans party in raves and clubs. The two do not mix well.

Try to picture a run down little bar straight out of an old WWII Pacific movie and then put a large shack on the outside with the thumping, bumping and grinding of an American beat flowing out of crapped out speakers. Throw in a strobe for effect, fill the place with a mix of USAF, USN, RN and Civilian Mariners and you've got the Britt club. With that amount of bravado and beer flying around, try and get a sociable conversation and you're more likely to start a fight. This place is going to be fun.
